Aadhaar is the world’s largest biometric ID system, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It serves as a robust proof of identity and address across India. Aadhaar is critical for availing government subsidies via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), opening bank accounts, getting a passport, and is mandatory for filing Income Tax Returns by linking with PAN. It uses iris scans and fingerprints for foolproof identification.

Eligibility Criteria

Every resident of India (who has resided in India for 182 days or more in the preceding 12 months) is eligible. Infants (under 5) get Baal Aadhaar. NRIs with an Indian passport can apply on arrival without waiting.

Application Process

1. Locate an authorized Aadhaar Enrollment Center via uidai.gov.in.

2. Book an appointment online to avoid queues.

3. Visit the center with original documents.

5. Collect the acknowledgment slip with EID to track status.
