The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) manages the retirement savings of formal sector employees. Contributions are made jointly by the employer and employee (12% of basic salary). EPFO provides Provident Fund, Pension Scheme (EPS), and Life Insurance (EDLI) benefits.
Eligibility Criteria
Mandatory for salaried employees in covered establishments with a basic salary up to Rs. 15,000. Voluntary for those earning above this limit.
Required Documents
- UAN (Universal Account Number)
- Aadhaar Card (must be linked with UAN)
- Active Bank Account (seeded with UAN)
- PAN Card (for withdrawals)

Application Process
Employers generate the UAN for new employees. Employees must activate their UAN on the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal, link Aadhaar/Bank details, and can then file online claims for advance or final settlement.
