The Janma-Mrityu Tathya portal is a centralized platform for the Registration of Births and Deaths in West Bengal. A birth certificate is the most crucial identity document, establishing date of birth, place of birth, and parentage. The portal allows hospitals to register births instantly and citizens to download digitally signed certificates.
Eligibility Criteria
Parents of newborns must report the birth within 21 days for free registration. Delayed registrations require an affidavit and SDM approval.
Required Documents
- Discharge certificate from hospital
- Aadhaar Card of Parents
- Marriage Certificate of Parents (optional but recommended)
- Affidavit (if delayed > 21 days)
Application Process
1. Institutional births are registered by the hospital. You will receive an SMS.
2. Visit janma-mrityutathya.wb.gov.in.
3. Click ‘Citizen Services’ > ‘Birth’ > ‘Download Certificate’.
4. Enter the acknowledgment number/mobile number to get the PDF.
5. For home births, apply online or visit the Gram Panchayat/Municipality.
